Project Overview

A Farm Shop Designed for Current and Future Needs

A local farm required additional workspace and secure equipment storage. Grey Owl Construction was hired to build a farm shop designed around the owner’s current machinery, maintenance needs and daily operations.

The layout incorporates generous equipment access, an open interior work area and room for the farm’s future growth. Careful planning throughout the foundation, framing and exterior finishing stages resulted in a practical building suited to Southern Manitoba conditions.

Planning Advice

Planning a Similar Farm Shop?

One of the biggest things to consider is whether the building will still work for you five or ten years from now. Equipment changes, farms grow and storage needs usually increase. A shop built tightly around what you own today can become frustrating much sooner than expected.

It is worth thinking through door height and width, turning space, ceiling clearance, work areas and where larger equipment may need to sit in the future. Adding a little extra room during the planning stage is usually easier and more affordable than trying to expand or alter the building later.

We like to discuss how the building will actually be used before settling on the final size and layout. That helps us build a shop that works properly on day one and continues to be useful as the operation changes.
